We wish to set some bare minimums before anyone can force teachers to go teach in their communities during these dangerous times.
Before teachers engage in Community learning?teaching activities as Magoha and TSC would want to lie to Kenyans about, the following must first be done.
1.Members to register at their points of convenience & take a photo of the registration details.Capture your details well in the form.
2.Before, the commencement of the exercise, the employer to provide the following personal preventive equipment (PPEs)
and protective gears. Both the National & County Governments have given the medical personnel sanitizers, gloves, respirators, masks, water supply, aprons, thermo 🔫 .This will safeguard them from droplets from coughs, sneezes or other body fluids from infected patients & contaminated surfaces. Teachers are not lesser public servants.
2.The identified Chiefs, assistant chiefs & nyumba kumi operators should first test all learners to be confirmed corona pandemic free. This testing & retesting must be done on a daily basis. Failure to do this, not a single teacher should assume community based classes.
3. Any identified ground for teaching & learning MUST be fumigated daily before the exercise kicks off. This is the role of the chief, assistant chief & nyumba kumi.
4.Let KICD provide urgently the curriculum to be employed during the community based teaching/learning.Whatever is taught or learned should be uniform across the republic. No learner should have undue advantage over the other.
5.Provide a stand by medical personnel for first aid in case a learner falls sick.
6. Why not fulfill the requirements of opening schools & streamline the systems in tandem with the new normal & try partial opening of schools. Otherwise, we risk throwing the child & bathwater in matters Education.
Teachers & Learners are not guinea pigs to test the spread of corona. We are ready to resume duty immediately. However, If the above requirements aren’t fulfilled, we are afraid of being led to a death trap. Life is more precious than the peanuts being dangled by the employer.
*CONCLUSION*
My take has always been that Magoha is not fit to be an education minister. He can better working in an ICU as a ventilator.
