Our media is full of analysis, headlines, ultimatums and timelines on why the BBI report must be read and implemented. A visitor coming into Kenya, may think we have no constitution. That we are some banana republic ready for an election. A person watching our news will wonder if we have COID 19 still existing in the country? One will wonder if our schools are open or not? WE ARE ALL COMB AND TONGS… ON BBI.
Truth is, we have bigger issues affecting us right now, than BBI. Truth is we a constitution. The 2010 constitution was taunted by the world renowned news channel ‘CNN ‘ as being Light years ahead of what many countries have for a constitution.
That is why, we are hearing progressive leaders, telling us… to first read. Do not rush. Do not come to conclusions so first. Take time to inhale this report. It is only a report!
*THE STORY OF THE ELEPHANT AND DOG*
An elephant and a dog became pregnant at the same time. Three months down the line, the dog gave birth to six puppies. Six months later, the dog was pregnant again, and nine months on it gave birth to another dozen puppies. The pattern continued.
On the eighteenth month the dog approached the elephant questioning, “Are you sure that you are pregnant? We became pregnant on the same date. I have given birth three times to a dozen puppies and they are now grown to become big dogs, yet you are still pregnant. What’s going on?”
The elephant replied, “There is something I want you to understand. What I am carrying is not a puppy but an elephant. I only give birth to one in two years. When my baby hits the ground, the earth feels it. When my baby crosses the road, human beings stop and watch in admiration, what I carry draws attention. So what I’m carrying is mighty and great.
Fellow Kenyans. Relax. A constitution is not something that rush with. It will affect our very life to the core. The ANC Party Leader H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, has asked us to read. Those who cannot read, get someone to read for you. Listen to views of experts. Take your time. Meanwhile continue with your daily life. We need our economy to grow. You must put food on the table for your family. Our schools must run. Our hospitals must operate. And you must take care of your health. COVID 19 is a bigger concern than dancing to the BB reggae tunes.
