The only unions we see demanding that their members get, special medical cover, special equipment and extra pay and allowances are doctors and nurses. Kudos to KMPDU.
But doctors and nurses are not the only front line workers when it comes to covid. Teachers are more frontal than any other worker.
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia who seems to be the only voice for teachers, said last week that teachers are front line workers… But are working and cooperating with govt WITHOUT COMPLAINS!!!!
Those words hit me hard. That teachers are front line workers but cannot talk. They are dying. They are getting infected. But they can’t ask, complain or make demands for allowances or extra funding for their medical cover.
The giant Union Knut died. It is now a BBI campaign tool. It cannot make demands for teachers. KUPPET we all know is a KUBBET. They have a lot of money they deducting from teachers. There’s is to eat and bet with teachers lives. They add no value to teachers.
The only groups that appear to voice teacher concerns is KENYA SECONDARY HEADS ASSOCIATION of Kahi Indimuli and KENYA WOMEN TEACHERS ASSOCIATION led by Benta Opande and Dorothy Muthoni. Note. The two above are associations .. Not unions.
Benta of Kewota wrote a letter demanding proper care for teachers during the pandemic. KEWOTA demanded for safety and asked for allowances.
CONCLUSION
Teachers need strong voices like KEWOTA or KMPDU of doctors. Today, the NHIF has bowed to doctor demands and is working on an enhanced medical cover. For teachers, NHIF can only pay for bed if one gets admitted.
