Principal number 21 has died since schools reopened in October 2020 in Kenya.
According to Irene Inganga, a close friend of the late Millicent Obare (fomerly at Nyamuninia primary school and recently promoted to head the prestigious Ngiya Girls Boarding), has died on 26th November 2020 from Covid 19 relsted complications.
Family, staff, learners and colleagues whom I spoke to in the profession are yet to come to terms with the death of the best teacher in Nyanza region 2019-2020. Infact.. The STANDARD named her the BEST TUTOR IN NYANZA.
An award Ms Obare won last year at Asumbi TTC during a headteachers conference.
The soft-spoken, elegant, young and exemplary academician teacher beat 200 plus other heads in Nyanza at an event where judges included representatives from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Her achievement was qioted in the Daily Standard when she said and I quote.
“.. I am overjoyed by the trust and confidence bestowed on my leadership skills by fellow teachers. This victory is to God and courtesy of my hard work,”.
This Morning. Obare is no more. Funeral plans ongoing.
Teachers are dying of complications and symptoms that are covid. The reason you are not hearing about it in media like that of doctors is because there is NO TESTING IN SCHOOLS. Doctors are tested. We are just dropping down like flies.
This happened on Friday when principal of St. Bridgits Kitayi in Bungoma, collapsed and died. On the same day, a deputy principal at Kilifi high, collapsed and died in school. The was closed, and media is silent. More will die in silence and ignorance, unless We teacheds find a voice to speak about it. We will die .. unless KNUT, KUPPET and KEWOTA start DEMANDING FOR MASS TESTING IN SCHOOLS.
REST IN PEACE, THE BEAUTIFUL, INTELIGENT MADAM OBARE OF NGIYA GIRLS BOARDING.
