WHAT THE NANDI HAVE DONE THIS MORNING BY STOPPING POLITICAL TOURISTS FROM TOURING THEIR SHRINES MUST BE COPIED BY THE LUHYA NATION

By Amunga Peter

THIS morning the Nandi have stopped and chased away Gideon Moi who had wanted to visit Nandi shrines for his political expediency. They told him to go clean himself first and seek redress from Nandi elders before trying to enter the area.

Nandi customary rights are not for political expedience, They fought the white man over the same. They fought late president Moi on the same and the current political conmen will not be allowed in Nandi area to play politics of winner take it all and go home to eat with family and friends.

You can call it intolerance but they call it safeguarding their cultural rights and protecting the fountain of their origin.. They will not allow brokers and power peddlers to divide their instruments of power.

When the same was bestowed on Moi a Tugen, every person was patient for Mzee to run his reign till 2006 after Moi leading the Community to defeat the Wako Draft. It is after this that the Community bestowed the instruments of power to William Ruto. As a Nandi man those rites means a lot to us and it is the interest of the community.

Nandi Shrines are not for political rallies where each broker can visit for financial gains.

Unfortunately, we the Luhya behave like we have no origins, no culture, no ancestors. We behave as if we are cows in the market for any Tom, dick and Harry can pounce on and use for their satisfaction. We must change.

We have the Nabongo Mumia shrine in Matungu. Yet we see the likes of Raila claim that their ancestors were bodyguards of Nabongo Mumia. A son of an askari is now misleading people of Mumias turning them round like chapati?

We must be proud. We must protect our own. Nobody should come to western to hoodwink us politically unless through our appointed and anointed leader .. Musalia Mudavadi.
