High Court issues orders stopping the swearing in of Anne Kananu Mwenda as Governor of Nairobi until the fundamental legal and constitutional questions arising from her vetting, approval, and appointment as the substantive DG of Nairobi and possible assumption into the office of Governor-are determined.
Lawyer Peter Wanyama has stated as follows.
On the instructions of the President of the Law Society of Kenya and Kenya Human Rights Commission Omwanza Ombati and I have just obtained Court orders to stop the swearing in of Anne Kananu Mwenda as Governor of Nairobi until the fundamental legal and constitutional questions arising from her vetting, approval, and appointment as the substantive DG of Nairobi and possible assumption into the office of Governor-are determined. We raise 10 deep questions. The High Court has also certified the Petition as extremely urgent and because it raises substantial questions of law , an order has been issued for the Acting CJ to appoint a bench of judges to hear the Petition on priority basis.
