COVID: SOSSION SUSPENDS ALL KNUT GATHERINGS

By Amunga Peter.

In a Memo KNUT SG Sossion has suspended all union meetings including the AGM UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE in adherence to Covid 19 PROTOCOLS announced by the president. At the same time, KNUT has lost officials to the disease and several are battling the deadly virus.

Unknown to many, KNUT ELECTIONS which ended last weekend, have been a danger to LIVES due to rising cases of covid-19 in teaching career. Worst hit was KNUT NAIROBI BRANCH where several officials who campaigned vigorously during the February ELECTIONS caught the virus. The chairman elect is STILL IN ICU struggling with his life. The branch secretary NAIROBI, Macharia Mugwe and his assistant Alvans Odhiambo have been down fighting for their lives as COVID attacked them. They are Isolated.

Several CLASSROOM teachers many who participated in the KNUT NAIROBI BRANCH ELECTIONS got infected and three have BEEN confirmed dead of covid in NAIROBI in the last two weeks.

KNUT KERICHO branch ELECTIONS were cited in media and in top govt security records as a group that openly DEFIED the president and held a gathering with over 500 people. This happened one day after the president halted all gatherings of over 100 people.

Open defiance of presidential orders, safety protocols by some union officials in KNUT must NOT ONLY be condemned for putting lives of teachers at risk, but for giving a wrong picture that the union is careless and opposed to the govt.

The KNUT sg Wilson Sossion has therefore released a MEMO to all union officials in the teaching fraternity to cease all public activities in accordance with the PRESIDENTIAL directive ON COVID PROTOCOLS. This memo is guided by the fact that covid 19 infections are on the increase in the giant teacher union.

Sossion who presided over the NAIROBI ELECTIONS is therefore well placed to give a strong advisory halting all POLITICAL and social activities in the union until such a time SAFETY will be assured.

CONCLUSION

KNUT will always be there. But our lives as teachers are important. We are in agreement with KNUT sg Wilson Sossion. Let the UNION Politics CEASE as we protect lives.
