HOW AN EDUCATION OFFICER RAN A GHOST PUBLIC SCHOOL IN KAKAMEGA

Details have emerged of how an education officer took advantage of the corruption cartels at Jogoo house, the Headquarters of KENYA’S Education ministry and ran a ghost public school in Khwisero subcounty of Kakamega.

Joshua Ocharo Momanyi, a junior clerk from KISII working at Kakamega education office, Created MUNDEKU SECONDARY SCHOOL ….a briefcase public school, and listed it as a school that gets Government funding via the FREE DAY Secondary school disbursement schedule. He opened a school account for it. It instantly received 11 million from Magoha. He had a ghost principal, Board managers etc who were able to access the accounts and withdrawal cash. For five years the school has operated without any querry from Magoha or his corrupt office.

According to sources Joshua was able to do so via two schools, ie, Mundeku and Siongo Secondary school all in Khwisero.

Joshua used to work in Khwisero and later transfered to Jogoo house.
The two schools could get money and apparently no one discovered until MoE started purchasing books for schools.
Everytime the books meant for Siongo and Mundeku were uncollected and hence returned to Nairobi.
One senior MoE official had to probe further why money sent to these schools were accounted and returns submitted, but books were not collected by the school principals.
Huku tulisahau hii story. Sadly people moved on.
Some of the senior guys at MoE are beneficiaries and know this story well.

  1. When you see such corruption take place, for such along period, the exposure is simply a result of quarrelling among the big beneficiaries in the same government.
