SHAFFIE WERU was earning 682K a month. Very few of us can earn such and has worked at the station for years. He was dismissed for remarks he and his DJ made on a live show about a lady who went to visit a man she did not know in a NAIROBI leafy surbub. She was thrown out of the 22 floor apartment in the dead of night. SHAFFIE lectured women from such backgrounds from visiting men. He laughed alot during the show.

A day after, women on social media turned heat on. SHAFFIE. Kenya breweries who advertise their products with the station, announced they had stopped due to SHAFFIE. Shortly after they sacked him.

Any Human Resource manager will tell you, that Radio Africa acted in a haste to dismiss their presenters over remarks made on a show.

If the Kenyan journalists’ had a great labor union, this would be a real one. They say in chess, a hasty move can cost you the king… May they get to an amicable solution.

I think Shaffie in that botched up breakfast show did say some of the things we need to teach our daughters. We are running away from the fact that we need to teach our daughters safety precautions especially when meeting strangers. Online relationships require serious precaution on meeting. That is basically what he said. Problem is that he laughed too much. He turned a serious topic into comedy like narrative.

We equally need to teach our sons self control. They need to know how to act when given NO for an answer. If we raise kids without ever saying NO to some of their demands then this is the outcome. Either way, this debate is bigger than we think. SHAFFIE has sued and is demanding for 21 million compesation.

The saddest thing about this back & forth on the #homeboyzradio andshaffie #mwalimuRachael is that instead of using this as an opportunity to engage the toxic culture of victim shaming & rape plus apology, tunarushiana maneno. Real change will come from value change & inclusive action.
