FLORENCE MWIKALI MUTUA WAINGAH is currently the FEMALE MP for Busia county and chairperson Education committee in parliament. But who is she? Where did she come from? Her background?
Hon. Florence Mutua was born in 1968 to an intertribal marriage between a Luhya father and a Kamba mother. She is the first born and the only daughter in a family of four siblings.
Born Florence Mwikali Mutua was 3 years old when her father passed on, a situation that led to her having a mixed upbringing both in the Luhya and Kamba nations.
After the death of her father, the young Florence was taken in by her maternal grandparents who gave her Kamba names in line with the tradition of naming a first grandchild.
The grandparents brought her up since her mother worked out of town. When young Florence was eight years old, her mother remarried, coincidentally in the same location as her late father effectively bringing her back within the purview of her father’s clan.
Only ignorant, naïve, peeve and piqued persons can condemn her as a Kamba or an outsider

DID YOU KNOW?
- That Florence Mutua was among the 10 women reps that lobbied and stayed and CS Rotic upto mid night lobbying for women reps to be allocated funds? Now you know
- That through her efforts and other few women reps CS Rotich have set aside to 500, 000, 000 million shillings to cater for sanitary pads for young girls in school so that our girls can concentrate on their studies? Now you know
- That SECOND CHANCE INITIATIVE is giving second chance to our girls who dropped out due to early pregnancies, early marriages, poverty etc?
In 2014 in a limited way. At that time and with her salary she only took back to school 14 students 4 of whom are now in college. in 2016 through NGAAF 89 girls were taken back to school from all over the county. Our hope is that the National Government will increase the County MPs allocation to cater for such urgent cases since time is of essence. One year lost is a long time and means a lot to a girl who wants to go back to school.
