The 45 legistlators who met on Saturday at the Nairobi home of Gachagua for six hours to rally other leaders and residents of the larger Mt Kenya region to back Kiunjuri after a series of other strategy meetings which have been taking place in Nairobi, Nyeri and Kiunjuri’s home county of Laikipia agreed on the following;
️⃣. THAT they will change the model of political negotiations.
️⃣. THAT It will no longer be gentlemen pacts between presidential aspirants and the community.
️⃣. THAT they will negotiate with all presidential candidates in broad daylight and agree or disagree in the open.
️⃣. THAT DP Ruto who will be given first priority must negotiate with the region and give clear commitments before seeking support for his presidential bid.
️⃣. THAT it was time that political negotiations come before economic and development issues have been ironed out with their preferred presidential candidate.
️⃣. THAT their negotiations will be divided into three parts and are expected to start as soon as they secure an audience with DP Ruto in the coming days.
️⃣. THAT part one is “largely cast in stone, and they intend to be very firm on it. If they will not agree on part one, there will be no need to go to stage two and three
️⃣. THAT part one will be political issues, including positions the region should get in the next Government. Rutos running mate MUST be a Kikuyu and prime minister from Mt Kenya East.
️⃣. THAT part two will be the ‘Economic Agenda’ of the 11 counties, where they will ask Ruto to give a concrete plan for the region’s economic development.
