While some presidential candidates are talking of bottom up economics or hustler narratives, that will ensure class wars that divide KENYANS, Musalia Mudavadi is talking of an Economy that Works for All.
Let me elucidate.
Taking the case study of the blue economy. It should be seen to benefit all people living around the water bodies. For those in Lamu or around the Indian Ocean, an Economy that Works for All should benefit the locals at the coast more.
The same way the leading trade partner for Kenya is now Uganda and the great lakes region. Frontier counties including Siaya, Homabay, Migori, Busia, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot and Turkana should be benefiting more from trade with Uganda.
But as it stands western region only gets about 1% of the proceeds from the Uganda trade. The Mudavadi economic policy when he forms govt is to change this.
Mudavadi has spent a day at Sagana listening to leaders of Mt. Kenya as he draws his economic policy for the region.
Those presenting have cited the railway line to Nanyuki to be fast tracked so as to open up markets for goods from the region.
The Luhya NATION are also asking that the line to Malaba is snail be part of MM’s thinking as articulated in Bukhungu January last year during the BBI rallies.
An Economy that Works for All is the one that ensures that all Locals must be the main beneficiaries of local resources and incomes generated from their regions.
The huge gold reserves discovered in what is called Lirhanda corridor that covers, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu and Siaya counties are part and parcel of the Mudavadi economic recovery plan. Plans are underway for locals to be put in the know, with local participation and we are told mining to ensure that Gold mined in Migori, Siaya, Kakamega and Vihiga works for ALL.
