AGENCY FEE IS THE REASON WHY UNIONS HAVE AGREED TO SIGN THE MATERNITY LEAVE CBA NEXT WEEK

BY AMUNGA.

Soft copies of the maternity leave CBA have been availed. All unions have accepted and signed that teachers will get extra leave days to go and give birth. But due to covid, teachers will not get an extra coin on basic pay.

Last week, the unions claimed to have walked out of the talks. Truth is, they were seeking more time to study the document.

But now they have accepted.

The consequences are as follows.

  1. All unions will collect an agency fee from all non members who enjoy the maternity CBA. AGENCY FEE is a tax forced on anyone who is in the profession enjoying benefits negotiated by unions.
  2. All teachers who left KNUT in their thousands will pay agency fee after the signatures are in place. Agency fee is higher and more expensive than union dues.
  3. Demarcation. KNUT has agreed to demarcation whereby it will change its name and constitution so as to only Carter for PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS. KUSNET will be for all teachers in special schools and KUPPET will gain as all high school teachers will be placed in KUPPET.

CONCLUSION

The loser is the classroom teacher. They get nothing in this MATERNITY LEAVE CBA as mot of them are above child bearing age. The greatest winners are union officials. Agency fee for KNUT alone is 345 million a month starting this August.
